Portuguese Individualized Instruction

Location: You will come to the Individualized Language Learning Center located in 120 Hagerty Hall for your appointments with a Portuguese I.I. instructor.

Deadlines: There are few deadlines in the I.I. program, but they are very important! See Important Dates sheet in your Orientation Packet for all dates and deadlines. See also the calendar in the Orientation Packet.
Credit contracts: During the seventh week of the quarter, you have the chance to change the number of credits for which you are enrolled. To change your credit hours, follow these steps:
- Fill in the Contract adjustment form and make a print-out.
- Make an appointment to come into the Portuguese I.I. office in person and tell the instructor if you would like to 1) drop credit hours, or 2) add credit hours. Contracts cannot be made over the phone—you must come to the office with your form filled out and ready for our signature.
- We will send your form to your College, and keep a copy of your contract in your personal Portuguese I.I. file.
Evaluations: There will be a written test at the end of each module. You will also be evaluated in your oral performance, through oral presentations. You will also receive a grade for compositions for every module. In order to pass a module, you will have to average 80% or higher.

All levels: a Portuguese-English-Portuguese dictionary.

Course packet: The Course Packet ("Apostila") is fundamental for your progress in the Individualized Instruction program. This is where you find what to read and what exercises to complete in the book, and also some extra explanation and exercises. It also contains the mandatory activities for each module.
Conversation and Tutoring : Conversation and tutoring sessions are offered to students of all levels (in HH 120W). Students in the Individualized Instruction program are required to attend at least one conversation session per module (be sure to have the conversation proctor sign your conversation slip). No appointment is needed for either. Tutoring sessions are individual and are limited to 15 minutes if another student is waiting (otherwise, no time limit is imposed). Conversation sessions last approximately 50 minutes and are limited to 5 students per session. For schedules, see the Teaching and Learning Centers page.
