Objectives
- To present strategies and techniques for teaching Spanish at the college level to students whose native or second language is English
- To explore and discuss the basic theories of second language acquisition
- To explore the materials and technology used in the teaching of Spanish at the college level
Textbook
Teachers Handbook: Contextualized Language Instruction. Judith Shrum and Eileen Glisan. Thomson Heinle Publishers. 3rd Edition 2005 [ISBN: 1-4130-0462-8]
Requirements
- Attendance and participation in all classes
- Implementation of techniques and strategies from 801 workshop and class discussions in your daily class preparations
- Submission of four on-line open-book quizzes (Carmen) based on Teachers Handbook and selected readings.
- Using the lesson plan evaluation form from the GTA training workshop observe and submit a reflective journal on 4 Spanish classes (at least three different instructors).
- Completion of two class-based projects and one video related to your teaching assignments

- You must contact each instructor via e-mail two days before observing his/her class. No more than two observers will be permitted during one class period.
- Confirm the room location with instructors before the day of your observations.
- Graduate Teaching Associates must submit their observation reports to Dr. Robison (robison.25@osu.edu). Observations due: October 2; October 16; October 23; November 6.
- Lecturers are not required to enroll in Spanish 801 Autumn but must observe four classes (three different instructors). Observations due: October 2; October 23; November 6; November 20. Lecturers must submit their observation reports to Dr. Macián (macian.1@osu.edu).
