The Portuguese major consists of a minimum of 50 credit hours distributed as indicated below. Up to 5 credits of courses offered in English on the Portuguese-speaking world may count as an elective toward the major. A minimum grade of "C-" in all courses comprising the major is required.Orientation (10 hours) These 2 Portuguese courses are required.

NOTE: Exceptions to the above requirements and distributions will be considered when they do not diminish the quality of the individual major program.
Graduation with Distinction in Portuguese
Previously stated requirements listed and:
- Honors Thesis (for 8 – 15 hours of H783 credit) under direction of a faculty member chosen by the student. Student will also choose another faculty member in the department as a committee member. The thesis will also have an outside committee member, who will be chosen by the student in consultation with the thesis director
- One hour oral examination covering topic of thesis. All three committee members will participate in the exam
- CPHR of 3.40 and PHR of 3.60 in Portuguese
Minor InformationMajor Information
A minor in Portuguese consists of a minimum 20 credit hours chosen from the table below. In special cases Portuguese 693 can be arranged to a maximum of fifteen (15) hours, but not to replace a regularly scheduled course. Portuguese 401 is required. Please keep in mind that the prerequisites must be observed.
