Spanish Undergraduate Majors and Minors
Major Information Minor Information
The Spanish major consists of a minimum of 50 credit hours distributed as indicated below. A minimum grade of C- in all courses counting toward the major is required. Honors students must take H450 and fulfill additional requirements. Spanish courses counted to fulfill GEC or other requirements may be applied to the Spanish major, including Spanish 603, which may be applied to the Spanish major and also satisfy a GEC requirement for the third writing course.

Spanish Major Tracks (35 hours)
Track in Peninsular Literatures and Cultures
- Concentration Requirement: 3 courses from Group A – 15 cr
- Diversification Requirement: 2 courses from either Group B or Group C or one course from each Group – 10 cr
- Senior Seminar: Spanish 650 or Spanish H680 (when taught on a Peninsular topic) – 5 cr
- Electives: 1 course from either Group A, Group B, Group C, or Group D – 5 cr
- Concentration Requirement: 3 courses from Group B – 15 cr
- Diversification Requirement: 2 courses from either Group A or Group C or one course from each Group – 10 cr
- Senior Seminar: Spanish 660 or Spanish H680 (when taught on a Latin American topic) – 5 cr
- Electives: 1 course from either Group A, Group B, Group C, or Group D – 5 cr
- Concentration Requirement: 3 courses from Group C, including either 430 or H530 – 15 cr
- Diversification Requirement: 2 courses from either Group A or Group B or one course from each Group – 10 cr
- Senior Seminar: Spanish 630 – 5 cr
- Electives: 1 course from either Group A, Group B, Group C, or Group D – 5 cr
- 2 courses from one Group, plus 2 courses from another Group, plus 1 course from the remaining Group – 25 cr
- Senior Seminar in one of Groups A, B, or C (pre-requisites must be met) – 5 cr
- 1 additional course from any of Groups A, B, or C – 5 cr
Immersion Requirement: An approved study-abroad program or credit for Spanish 689 is required to fulfill this requirement of the program
*Only 2 Honors embedded courses may count toward the Major program.
** Only one course in English may be counted toward the Spanish Major program.
***H783, 697, 693 can be taken for up to 15 credit hours, but only a maximum of 5 credit hours can count toward the Spanish Major program.
