Spanish Undergraduate Majors and Minors


Major Information Minor Information

The Spanish major consists of a minimum of 50 credit hours distributed as indicated below. A minimum grade of C- in all courses counting toward the major is required. Honors students must take H450 and fulfill additional requirements. Spanish courses counted to fulfill GEC or other requirements may be applied to the Spanish major, including Spanish 603, which may be applied to the Spanish major and also satisfy a GEC requirement for the third writing course.

Orientation (15 hours) These 4 courses are required for all tracks.

Spanish Major Tracks (35 hours)

Track in Peninsular Literatures and Cultures Track in Latin American Literatures and Cultures Track in Hispanic Linguistics Track in Hispanic Studies Students desiring to switch tracks during the major will be able to do so fairly easily, given the common core requirements of each track. However, it should be noted that the longer a student waits to switch tracks, the potentially more time-consuming such a switch will become.

Immersion Requirement: An approved study-abroad program or credit for Spanish 689 is required to fulfill this requirement of the program

***H783, 697, 693 can be taken for up to 15 credit hours, but only a maximum of 5 credit hours can count toward the Spanish Major program.

The Spanish minor consists of a minimum of 20 credit hours distributed as indicated below. A minimum grade of C- in all courses counting toward the minor is required. Honors students must take H450 and fulfill additional requirements. Spanish courses counted to fulfill GEC or other requirements may be applied to the Spanish minor, including Spanish 603, which may be applied to the Spanish minor and also satisfy a GEC requirement for the third writing course. Courses taught in English may not count toward the minor program.
