Spanish Honors Program
Past Experiences: Student Comments
"My honor's thesis project investigates how the child language disorder called 'Specific Language Impairment' manifests itself in children who speak Spanish. The project gave me the opportunity to travel to Mexico City twice to collect data in Mexican hospitals and day care centers. It was a great experience: not only did it teach me about how research is conducted in the field of child language acquisition, but it also introduced me to another country's culture and allowed me to potentially help a lot of children with this impairment."Amy Pratt, Honors Spanish Major

"My senior thesis not only enriched my academic experience here at Ohio State, but also provided me with valuable experience for my future as a clinical Speech Language Pathologist. My advisors worked with me to make sure my project was something I was passionate about, which for me meant working with children with autism. Doing research in an area you love makes all the hard work worth it."

"My senior honors thesis investigated the effect that Communist Party policies had on the outcome of the Spanish Civil War. I become interested in the Spanish Civil War during my study abroad experience in Spain, and then my interest further developed during the Senior Seminar about the Spanish Civil War. Though my thesis was not related to my future career plans, it gave me an opportunity to delve deeper into an area of study that truly interested me. To me, that is the best part of doing a thesis project; you have the freedom to investigate any topic that is of great importance to you. I also learned the value of doing research, which is a useful tool in any sort of career."
