Spanish Multimedia Computer Adaptive Test (MultiCAT)

Who must take the MultiCAT placement test?
All students who studied Spanish for two years or more in high school and have used Spanish to fulfill the admissions requirement, but have not received any previous Spanish credit at The Ohio State University or another university/college must take MultiCAT (Multimedia Computer Adaptive Test). Go to 171 Hagerty Hall with your student I.D. to take the placement test. Call the Foreign Language Center (614-292-4361) for the testing schedule.

Who is not required to take the MultiCAT?
- Students who have been out of high school for over five years and who have had no practice with Spanish in the meantime (see chart below). These students may enroll in Spanish 101.01 or see Dr. Jan Macián for advising.
- Students who have less than two years of high school Spanish.
- Students who completed high school in a Spanish-speaking country. Email Dr. Jan Macián in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese for information.
- Transfer students who took Spanish courses at another university. Contact the Transfer Credit Center to have credits evaluated.
- Students who have already taken the MultiCAT. If you believe that you have been placed too low or too high - see Dr. Macián.
- Students who have credit for a previous Spanish course at The Ohio State University. You should enroll in the next course in the sequence. Students who have had a long hiatus since their previous Spanish course may elect to repeat the previous course for an audit. The on-in request form must be submitted and approved: http://sppo.osu.edu/languageProgram/auditprog.cfm. Free tutoring is available in our Teaching and Learning Centers. MultiCAT Notes: If you placed into 104, contact The Department of Spanish & Portuguese, 298 Hagerty Hall, 292-4958, or see this section to take a EM Proficiency Exam. Spanish 102.66 is an intensive review of 101.01 and 102.01 Spanish 103.66 is an intensive review of 102.01 and 103.01 Students with more than 1 year of Spanish may NOT sign up for Spanish 101.01.
