What is it?
SLRPE stands for Spanish Listening and Reading Proficiency Exam. It is one of the prerequisites for entry into Spanish 401 and above.
Who takes it?
Students currently enrolled in Spanish H104 or 250 who wish to register for Spanish 401 next quarter. The prerequisites are H104 or 250. If you have not taken or are not enrolled in one of these classes, you are not eligible to take SLRPE.
What is the format?
The exam is computer-based. It consists of two parts, reading and listening. After reading a passage in Spanish you will be asked to write a detailed summary in English. Likewise, after listening to a lecture on a cultural topic in Spanish, you will be asked to write a summary in English. Limited note-taking is permitted while reading and listening, but the passage is not available for reference once you begin writing your summary. (All notes will be collected by the test monitor at the end the exam.)
How long is it?
The exam is two hours. You should pace yourself as you take the exam, allowing one hour for each section.
What do I need on test day?
Your OSU ID or drivers license, headphones, and pen or pencil.
How do I sign up?
To sign up for the exam, register online!
What grade is passing?
You must receive at least 80% on each section, reading and listening. It is not an average of the two grades.
If I dont pass, can I take it again?
Effective spring quarter 2002, students can repeat the SLRPE exam once but they have to wait until the fifth week of the following quarter. A third test may be petitioned through the Language Studies Committee.
What if I only pass one section?
The next time you take the SLRPE you will only have to retake the section that you did not pass.
How is it graded?
Graders look for specific main points form the passages. Try to be detailed in your summaries. You will receive your results in about a week, by e-mail or telephone.
