Karpus Graduate Student Awards for the Study of Spanish Iberian Literatures and Cultures

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese is pleased to announce the 2019 competition for awards from the Karpus Fund. The purpose of the Karpus Fund award is to further the education, training and professional development of currently enrolled graduate students who are engaged in the study of Spanish Literatures and Cultures. The award is to be used to travel to Spain any time within the academic (Summer 2019-Spring 2020) year to pursue research into a topic within the fields of Spanish literatures and cultures.

Applicants must be OSU graduate students in good standing, engaged in the study of Spanish Literatures and Cultures.

The competition is subject to the following guidelines: All applications must be made in writing, and should be no more than two pages in length, including a proposed budget. Each application should state clearly the purpose for which the award is being sought, the relationship of that purpose to the student’s area of research, and offer a brief outline of the project for which the research is to be carried out. The award cannot be used for presenting at a conference. Applications for research travel must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the student’s advisor, and a curriculum plan. Applications should include information about current awards received for funding of the research/project; and about other awards and sources of funding, if any, currently being sought for the project.

Applications are due March 6, 2020
Submit materials via application.

Priority will be given to applications from advanced doctoral level students, followed by beginning doctoral students, followed by M.A. students. Due to the limited funds available, those who have received the Karpus Award within the last 5 years are not eligible. In this year’s competition, there will be a single award of $400 given to a single project.
