Anthony Palmiscno is a PhD candidate in Ohio State University's Spanish PhD program, focusing on Iberian contemporary cultural studies. After studying at the Universidad de Sevilla and teaching with a Fulbright grant in La Rioja, he has come to appreciate diverse cultural phenomena in both the north and south of the country. His primary research interests include the performance of identity and cultural branding through food and wine in the Spanish autonomous community of La Rioja, and how such gastronomic expressions sustain regional identity within the larger context of Spain and neighboring Basque peripheries. His work primarily interrogates consumption in bars, wine festivals, and other gastronomic spaces of conviviality. Other academic interests include representations of food and wine in contemporary Spanish literature, language pedagogy, 21st century learning in the context of language learning, technology-enhanced learning in the foreign language classroom, and performance pedagogy to foster spaces of safety within the classroom and community.
