Mónica is interested in the phonetics and phonology of Spanish with special regard to Colombian Spanish varieties. She has been studying the "Llanero dialect," a variety spoken in the east of Colombia and wants to deepen its analysis. Also, one of her main goals is to know more about phonetic variation in Colombian Spanish dialects or regional varieties that have been behind the scenes for many reasons such as geographical location, prestige, and social conflicts.
