Henrique Yagui Takahashi is a fourth-year Ph.D. Student in Latin American Cultural and Literary Studies. His areas of interest consist of Comparative Ethnic & Race Studies and Postcolonial & Diasporic Cultures and Literatures in Latin American and Caribbean countries. In his dissertation project, he examines the process of racialization among Asian diaspora, Afro-Latin American community, and Indigenous populations within the Latin American national identities based on the myth of racial democracy and mestizaje. His research is conducted through comparative fieldwork between Bairro da Liberdade, São Paulo (Brazilian Asiantown), and Barrio Chino, Lima (Peruvian Chinatown). During the 2021-2022 academic year, Henrique’s dissertation is funded by the Global Arts & Humanities Discovery Theme Fellowship.
