The webinar will be conducted by Dr. Diana Ruggiero, alumna of the SPPO Graduate Program and recipient of the 2019 AATSP Teacher of the Year Award for the University/College Level..  In this webinar you will learn about the competencies of significant learning (factual, conceptual, procedural and attitudinal) to apply them to Spanish courses in health, business, and community work, with the aim of developing intercultural sensitivity in students. The competencies that we usually evaluate in language classes are almost always the factual and conceptual ones, but we rarely look into the area of procedures and attitudes. You will then discuss four key elements that you must include in your course so that significant learning is part of your instruction. The development of intercultural sensitivity is essential in classes with a focus on health, business and community work. Along with the four key elements that you will discuss, you will also refer to the creation of activities that you can implement in your next class, and how you can evaluate them. Many teachers who teach regular classes can incorporate an activity for specific purposes into their lesson plan, and gradually begin to develop content for their courses and the future creation of complete courses in this area. And finally, you will also have the opportunity to ask questions on the subject at the end of the presentation and take valuable material for your professional development.
