As in his striking three-channel video installation Tônus (2012) in the Cruzamentos exhibition, Mentira repetida (Repeated Lie) documents a physical encounter between artist Rodrigo Braga and the natural environments of the Amazon. Dwarfed by the forest’s isolating vastness, Braga lets out one powerful and violent scream after another until, by the end of the video, he is left raw, mute, and spent. Nature’s indifference to his outpouring of personal emotion renders him prostrate. (5 mins., video)
