
Enjoy the national music of Cuba with Columbus' first and only charanga orchestra, La Charanga Tres, led by flutist and jazz faculty member Kris Keith. Band members include percussion faculty member Joseph Krygier, congas; Ohio State alumni Erin Gilliland, violin, and Chris Young, piano; and Capital University faculty members Roger Hines, bass; Stan Smith, guitar; and Eric Paton, timbale.
The ensemble will perform Pa' Gozar, Tata Guines; La Engañadora, Enrique Jorrín; Cachita, Rafael Hernández; Angoa, Félix Reina and Carlos Reyes;Mambo, Israel "Cachao" Lopez; Claudia, Jesús "Chucho" Valdés; El Bodeguero, Richard Egues; Almendra, Abelardo Valdés; María Cervantes, Noro Morales; El Agua Del Clavileto, Miguel Angel Pozo; Capullito De Alelí, Rafael Hernández. Several of these selections will be performed as played by Tito Puente, Ruben Gonzalez, Paquita D'Rivera, Orquesta Aragon and Johnny Pacheco.
