Learn how to file your FAFSA with with ODI Scholarship Services representative Ricardo Zamaripa.
All LASER Scholars are encouraged to attend. Undocumented students will work on other scholarship opportunities outside of the FAFSA.
Families and students will need to bring their 2013 FEDERAL Tax Returns in order to complete the FAFSA. I understand that some families will not have their 2013 FEDERAL Tax Returns since the workshops are scheduled for mid-February. If this is the case, then they can estimate their income on the FAFSA by using their 2012 FEDERAL Tax Returns. If families do not want to bring their tax information to the workshop on account of privacy (which is very understandable), have them bring pencils and paper so that they can take good notes.
Also, students and parent will need to have their FAFSA pins if they plan to submit their FAFSA online. If they cannot remember their pin number, they can go to the Federal Student Aid website and REQUEST A DUPLICATE PIN. They can also APPLY FOR A PIN if they do not have one already.
Students can attempt to complete the 2014 - 2015 FAFSA after January 1st. If students complete the FAFSA before the workshop, then please have them bring their Student Aid Report (SAR). The SAR is the summary of all the info submitted on the FAFSA. They will receive the SAR via email (3-5 days after completion), if an email address was provided on the FAFSA. If an email address was not provided, then they will receive it via mail (7-10 days after completion). I will check it for any mistakes and advise them on any corrections that need to be made if they bring their SAR to the workshop.
