Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. "Connecting the dots: A project-based model for teaching phonetics and research using student data"

Presenters: Shontael Wanjema, Christina García, Mary Beaton, Kathryn Campbell-Kibler, Terrell Morgan

This presentation highlights the OhioSpeaks project, which is a collaboration between the Linguistics and Spanish Departments. We present this project as model for how to collect data while simultaneously teaching students about how linguistic research is done. For example, in a Spanish pronunciation class, students record themselves twice in the semester and are presented with plots and graphs showing their progress. We also discuss how this project could be adapted to other Spanish courses.
