Mark Guerrero will present a survey of Chicano music from the pre-rock era of the '40s to the punk rock on the late '70s, with an emphasis on the careers of the speaker and his father, Lalo Guerrero, "The Father of Chicano Music," and the music that emerged from East Los Angeles starting in the 1960s, known as the "Eastside Sound."
Mark Guerrero began playing in rock & roll bands at age 12. He led the popular East Los Angeles band Mark & the Escorts, who recorded two singles for GNP Crescendo Records. As a Chicano and East L.A. music historian, Mark has written over a hundred articles, hosted an internet radio show, been a guest of numerous radio and television programs, consulted for museums, and lectured at universities.
This event is sponsored by the Center for Latin American Studies and the Center for Spanish and Portuguese. Pizza dinner will be served!
