The International Studies and African and Diaspora Studies Programs and the Department of Foreign Languages at Wittenberg University are pleased to host the 13th Ohio Latin Americanist Conference for the year 2014. All Latin Americanist and Latina/o Studies scholars, educators, and students from institutions of higher education in Ohio and surrounding areas to participate in this annual meeting on the status of Latin American and Latina/o Studies. The theme of the 2014 conference is:  The Importance of Local Knowledge:  Cultural Boundaries, Displacement, and Identity.
 

 

 

Conference highlights include:
 
1. Performance piece, Asterion, by OSU graduate Diego Mattos
2. Keynote speaker, Esteban Morales Dominguez, professor emeritus of Economics, University of Havana.
3. Filmmaker Alvaro Olmos from Bolivia, with first U.S. screening of his documentary, Diario de piratas.
4. Filmmaker Catherine Murphy, screening her new documentary, 1961, on the Cuban Literacy Campaign.
5. Luisa Campos Gallardo, director of the Literacy Campaign Museum in Havana.
6. Special panel on immigration, with focus on issue of deportations, chaired by Victor Garcia, retired professor of Spanish from Antioch U. in Yellow Springs.
7. Special presentation by Wexner Center for the Arts on a new Brazil project with opportunities for student participation.
