Professor Zubiaurre's work in comparative cultural studies specializes in the areas of gender studies, urban studies, Spanish literatures, Latin American and Latina fiction.  She has published extensively, and her most recent book Cultures of the Erotic in Spain 1898-1939 (2012), is the first academic book to analyze the diverse visual and textual representations of the erotic in Spanish popular culture during the so-called "Edad de Plata" or Silver Age (1898-1936).
