The Mole Agent is a Chilean film that stylishly and surprisingly fuses the spy movie with observational documentary as a private investigator hires Sergio, an 83-year-old widower, to infiltrate a retirement home to investigate a case of possible mistreatment. As Sergio bumbles his way through learning the latest spy gadgets (as well as more ordinary technologies like FaceTime), he also begins to get involved in the lives of the elderly residents and makes numerous poignant discoveries about love, loneliness, and growing old. In Spanish with English subtitles. (84 mins., DCP)
