Applied Linguistics and Language Pedagogy/Language Program Director

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University is seeking applications for an assistant or associate level tenured/tenure-track professor to serve in the position of Language Program Director. The Director must be a scholar of language pedagogy, with a clear, coherent vision of language teaching and how it can be effectively deployed across multiple components of a large program. Highly developed administrative and personal skills are critical in this position, which directs a program serving roughly 8,000 students of Spanish, Portuguese, Quechua and Catalan, annually.
Qualifications: PhD in Applied Linguistics, Spanish language pedagogy or related field. Candidates must show evidence of scholarly excellence. Candidates should also have a clearly articulated and theoretically grounded approach to language teaching and demonstrable success in program administration (even if not in an OSU-sized program). Preference will be given to candidates who can give evidence of supervisory and management skills appropriate to a large, complex program. Also desirable is evidence of success with curriculum development, assessment and articulation, as well as experience with individualized instruction, innovative teaching with technology and distance learning. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish is required.
