Call For Papers for The Eighteenth Annual Hispanic and Lusophone Studies Symposium

This year, our graduate symposium will concentrate on race and gender in Iberian and Latin American
literature and culture. We invite proposals from all disciplines; such as literary, transatlantic, cultural, media,
comparative, migration, Latino, women, and African studies, art history, and anthropology—to name but a
few.

Please submit abstracts/proposals to symposium_sppo@osu.edu by February 15, 2015. Presentations may be made in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Please join in this conversation and celebration of Iberian and Latin American culture from a variety of time periods. Abstracts and panel proposals must be at most 250 words. They may be submitted as Word, PS, Rich Text, or PDF attachments. Submissions are anonymous. The body of the e-mail should contain the following information: title of the paper/panel proposal, area of specialization, name, postal address, e-mail, and affiliation of the author(s) (hard copy submissions should include the information above on a separate sheet). The subject of the email should include the terms “Literatures and Cultures.”

Topics may include but are not limited to the following:

1. Visions of masculinity/patriarchy
2. Feminism and feminists
3. LGBT activism
4. Alternative sexuality
5. Race and gender
6. Gender and nation
7. Race and nation
8. What lies beyond race and gender?

*Conference fee for accepted presenters is $35 for Graduate Students and $50 for Faculty.

*Early registration fee is $30 for Graduate Students and $45 for Faculty, if submitted by March 31, 2015.
