SPPO would like to congratulate Dr. Ana Elena Puga as well as her colleague, Dr. Victor M. Espinosa (Sociology), for their research, which was recognized at this year’s American Society for Theatre Research conference. Drs. Puga and Espinoza received the Barnard Hewitt Award for Outstanding Research in Theatre History for their jointly authored volume, Performances of Suffering in Latin American Migration: Heroes, Martyrs, and Saints (Palgrave 2020). The Barnard Hewitt Award for Outstanding Research in Theatre History is awarded each year to the best book in "theatre history or cognate disciplines” published during the previous calendar year. The winning book is selected for being innovative in its approach to material, meticulous in its historical scholarship, and original in its conclusions.
