Get to Know SPPO Alumni Edition: Madeline Stockwell

In this installment of “Get to Know SPPO” we meet a very special alumni from the Spanish and Portuguese program at the Ohio State University: Madeline Steele Stockwell. Madeline is special for the program because she finished her B.A. with us and has continued on with the program. She is currently pursuing her M.A. in Spanish Literature and Cultures.

Madeline is originally from Lubbock, Texas but moved to Columbus for her undergraduate degree. Once here, she fell in love with the Spanish program, especially all topics related to Basque and Catalan culture. She wrote an undergraduate research paper on the historical roots of Basque and Catalan Nationalisms. She told us that the experience of writing that paper along with her other undergraduate courses prepared her especially well for graduate study and the department continues to help her in developing her language and academic skills. She recalls that throughout her undergraduate career Dr. Eugenia Romero was especially helpful and her classes on Spanish nationalisms were transformative for her. Madeline is just one example of how SPPO prepares its students for future success!
