Kawsay Ukhunchay 2024 Open House was a success!
Thank you for coming to the Kawsay Ukhunchay Research Collection Open House!
The Kawsay Ukhunchay Andean and Amazonian Indigenous Art and Cultural Artifacts Research Collection thanks all those who came to the Collection’s Open House event on Wednesday, March 27th. We had over 50 attendees! The celebratory event showcased Kawsay Ukhunchay’s semester-long exhibition on Storytelling Tapestries and Story Cloths in collaboration with Denison Museum and OSU’s Historical Costumes and Textiles Library. In addition to exhibition tours and research talks led by our student curators, invited artist Carlos Flores Quispe, son of Bolivian master weaver, Mama Santusa Quispe who created one of the storytelling tapestries in our collection, gave a talk about the cultural significance of weaving in Andean indigenous cultures. This community-building opportunity and programming around indigenous art was supported through an OSEP grant. The exhibition will be on display until the end of the semester. Please reach out to Michelle Wibbelsman.1@osu.edu with any questions or to coordinate a class visit. Read more about the event here.
