OSU Congress on Hispanic and Lusophone Linguistics (OSUCHiLL)

OSU CHiLL

The organizers of The 2017 Ohio State University Congress on Hispanic and Lusophone Linguistics (OSUCHiLL) are excited to welcome Dr. Erin O’Rourke and Dr. Janice Aski as keynote speakers to the 20th Annual Congress.

Dr. Erin O’Rourke (University of Alabama): is an Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics at the University of Alabama. Her research interests include languages in contact, phonetics, phonology, and sociolinguistics. She studies Spanish intonation, speech rhythm, bilingual vowel space, and intervocalic voiced stops in Peru and Ecuador. Moreover, she also studies Spanish in contact with other varieties of Spanish and with English in the United States. For instance, her article published in 2016 (O’Rourke & Potowski, 2016) analyzes the phonetic outcomes of the contact among different varieties of Spanish in Chicago. For more information you can also check Dr. O’Rourke’s website.

Dr. Janice Aski (Ohio State University): is a Professor of Italian & Romance Linguistics at the Ohio State University. Her research interests include Italian and romance historical linguistics, focusing on the social, pragmatic, and cognitive aspects of phonological and morphological change. She also conducts research on foreign language pedagogy, in particular the topics of testing, teaching and reading at the elementary level, and how first-year Italian textbooks and grammar practice activities reflect the most current research in second language acquisition.
