SPPO Lecturer, Dr. Stephanie Aubry, Awarded 2020 Provost's Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese would like to congratulate Dr. Stephanie Aubry for receiving the 2020 Provost's Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer. This university-level recognition is awarded to only six people throughout the university each year.
In her recommendation letter, the Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, Dr. Laura Podalsky, states, "As a teacher-innovator, [Stephanie Aubry] has made wonderful contributions to the department and to the university through her excellence as a classroom and online (OL) instructor, ability to create innovative course materials, role as a course coordinator for a key course, and overall commitment to student learning."
Provost McPheron and Vice Provost Malone “zoom-bombed” the Language Program’s “Live Line” session yesterday to present Dr. Aubry with the award. In their remarks, they noted how students again and again praise her commitment to her undergraduates. She is an excellent instructor in a pivotal course in our program (SPAN 2202) and has had great success teaching in both face-to-face and online modalities. Dr. Aubry is dedicated to on-going curricular innovation by, among other things, transforming drills into games in the classroom; and setting up scaffolded activities in OL classes that move students between targeted oral and written activities in an integrated fashion. Beyond her role as instructor, the department is grateful for Stephanie’s contributions as a course coordinator and as a STEP advisor.
"Dr. Aubry has made excellent contributions to our department and to the university. She is a model teacher-innnovator whose efforts in and outside of the classroom promote undergraduate excellence," Dr. Podalsky concluded in her letter of recommendation.
Congratulations, Dr. Aubry! The Department of Spanish and Portuguese is thankful for all of your hard work and your dedication to your students!
