SPPO Welcomes State University of Amazonas

Amazonas

Earlier this semester, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese (SPPO) had the honor of hosting a delegation from the State University of Amazonas (Universidade do Estado do Amazonas - UEAM). The visit focused on exploring collaborative projects in language teaching and expanding outreach efforts to Indigenous communities in the Amazon region.

During their time on campus, the UEAM delegation also shared insights into the impactful work of NEPLAN, the university’s research center dedicated to sustainable development in the Amazon. The exchange fostered meaningful dialogue on interdisciplinary approaches to education, environmental sustainability, and community engagement.

A special highlight of the visit was the presentation of a ceremonial medal of institutional affiliation to Prof. Isis Barra Costa, in recognition of her role in strengthening ties between the two institutions.

Follow-up discussions are already in motion, with a return visit planned for October to continue building on the partnership.

Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting collaboration develops!
