William Johnson’s research primarily focuses on the historical sociolinguistics of the Romance languages. He has done work on negative particles in medieval French and on Spanish sibilants as they appeared in a manuscript written in 1599 held in the OSU library. Future investigations will examine possessive past particle constructions in medieval Spanish and the aspectual shift from perfect to perfective aspect in western Romance.

He currently teaches Advanced Spanish Grammar, and has taught lower level Spanish and Italian language courses.
