Celia Martinez-Saez is a PhD Candidate in Iberian and Latin American Literary and Cultural Studies. Her areas of interst include gender, race, national identity, and popular and visual culture in 20th and 21st century Spain. Her dissertation project focuses on mass media representations of hegemonic masculinities that promote the construction of Spanish national identity through imperialistic nostalgia and the domination/conquest of the Other. She has published essays on Spanish and Latin American performance art, colonial imaginaries in 21st century Spanish, and gloabalization and necropolitics in Colombian cultural productions in journals such as Letras Hispanas, Artelogie, and the Afro-Hispanic Review.
