Clare is a first-year PhD student studying Latin American Cultural and Literary Studies. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature from Kenyon College.

As an undergraduate, Clare received distinction for her senior capstone, titled, “De porcelana y una mente acerada: La figura de la muñeca en la poesía de Blanca Isaza,” in which she analyzes the poetry of 20th Century Colombian Blanca Isaza. Clare places Isaza’s work in conversation with comparative theory and feminist critique. In addition, the manner in which Clare compares and contrasts her own creative writing with that of Isaza crosses time and space, while embracing an innovative outlet.

As a proud Colombian-American who has spent the majority of her life in Ohio, Clare is especially passionate about the opportunity to explore and teach Spanish-Language Literature to students of all skill levels and backgrounds, particularly the rapidly growing population of those with Latine heritage, and those in-state. She strongly believes that connecting with one’s community through literature and language can provide meaningful growth, fuel self-exploration, foster collaboration, and bolster cultural competence.

Outside (or sometimes even inside) of the classroom, Clare enjoys ballet, musicals, music, movies, and hiking!
