The Public Rituals in the Portuguese Empire research project is engaged in digitizing ritual and festival-related texts held at the National Library of Portugal and National Library of Ajuda. The project aims to analyze the role of public rituals in the making of the early-modern Portuguese empire. This project will study public rituals through a comprehensive analysis of more than 1000 printed accounts (c. 30,000 pages of texts and images), displayed in a digital platform connected with the Digital Library of the Portuguese National Library and the Luso-Brazilian Digital Library.

There is currently an open Call for Papers for the 2020 international conference, Mapping Public Ritual in the Early Modern Portuguese Empire, which will take place at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais - Universidade de Lisboa in Lisbon, Portugal on July 6th and 7th. Details concerning the Call for Papers are included in the PDF attached below. To learn more about the Public Rituals in the Portuguese Empire project, please visit their website.
