Get to know SPPO: Robey Patrick

Robey Patrick
In this installment of Get to Know SPPO we meet Robey Clark Patrick, a Ph.D. Candidate in Medieval Iberian Literatures & Culturess. His working dissertation title: is "Translation and Appropriation of Adab Literature in the Court of Alfonso X, El Sabio."

Although his hometown is Auburn, California, he's lived in Columbus for 6 years now. He's travelled much, and perhaps his most memorable trip was when his mother came to visit him in Spain in 2001. They rented a car and drove throughout the country, in the process, the car was side-swiped in the narrow streets of Córdoba, and even fell off the police tow-truck in Jerez de la Frontera, among other catastrophes. Luckily, the comprehensive insurance covered most of the damage. When they returned it, Robey says, " We should have taken a photo of the attendant’s face when we returned the no-longer-new car, barely holding together at the end of the trip."

When a series of unfortunate events isn't befalling him, he likes attending performance art shows, writing poetry, cooking, and spending time with his dog, Sophia. Additionally, he has to work against name confusion. He clarifies, "my name causes continuous confusion: Robey Clark Patrick. My surname (Patrick) is more common as a first name. My first name (Robey) is more common as a surname. And my middle name (Clark) is legally my second given name, but was chosen because it is my mother’s maiden name and I share it with all my siblings, who are all women."
