OSU DACA Students Featured on PBS NewsHour
"For DACA students, it's hard to focus on a bright future when faced with deportation fears."
PBS NewsHour featured a story about OSU DACA Students in their "Rethinking College" series on October 8th, 2019. Several OSU students shared their story with PBS NewsHour's Hari Sreenivasan, explaining how DACA has impacted their lives, and what termination of the program could mean for their futures. The DACA Student Group, mentored by SPPO faculty member, Dr. Elena Foulis, is featured in the segment. The members strive to serve as advocates for undocumented students at the university. The Ally Training Program, coordinated by SPPO faculty member Anna Babel and designed by former Ph.D. student Stacey Alex, is also highlighted. The training program raises awareness about the issues that undocumented students face on campus. In addition, it educates the Ohio State community on how the university can support the success of its undocumented students. A number of SPPO faculty, staff, and students have completed the training, and multiple sessions are offered each semester for those who are interested.
