SPPO Associate Professor Dr. Pedro Pereira Featured in Portugal's Daily "Público"

Statue of Father António Vieira

On February 2nd, 2020 SPPO Associate Professor Dr. Pedro Pereira had an article published in Portugal’s daily Público. The article, "O padre António Vieira no país dos cordiais", was a collaboration between Dr. Pereira, scholars Dr. Inês Beleza Barreiros and Patrícia Martins Marcos, and archeologist Dr. Rui Gomes Coelho. It focuses on contemporary statues and monuments as manufacturers of racial, social, and political consensus in postcolonial Portugal, and borrows the concept of “cordialidade” from Brazilian sociologist Sérgio Buarque de Holanda. The full article can be read on Público’s website.

Dr. Ruis Gomes Coelho will be visiting OSU on February 28th where he will present, “The Sensorial Regime of 'Second Slavery': Landscape of Enslavement in the Paraíba Valley (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)”. For more details, please visit the SPPO Events page. The event is open to the public!
