Summer Opportunities

The Ohio State University and other universities will provide various academic opportunities this summer. These opportunities are not just limited to students but are open to instructors and members of the community as well.  Whether you are looking for a unique language class or a seminar abroad in Peru there are plenty of options.   • Richard E. Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar program, 2014-15: The Richard E. Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar award provides individuals the opportunity to work as visiting researchers with the University of New Mexico's Latin American library collections, one of the largest and most complete Latin or Spanish American collections in the country. Deadline: April 21, 2014
  • Summer Seminars Abroad for Spanish Teachers: The Center for Latin American Studies and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at The Ohio State University announce this year's intensive Summer Seminars Abroad, a 16-day workshop in Spanish linguistics in Lima, Peru. Deadline: April 15th, 2014
  • First year Intensive Modern Aymara Language (pdf) : Classified as a Less Commonly Taught Language(LCTL) in the U.S., the Aymara language is primarily spoken in the Altiplano region of Bolivia and Peru, and in lesser numbers in Chile and Argentina. This course will promote the development of the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Course has just received university approval for Summer 2014.
  • Humanities & Cognitive Summer Institute 2014 (High School Summer Institute): The Humanities and Cognitive Sciences High School Summer Institute welcomes applications from rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors matriculated in any Columbus school.  Members of traditionally underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.Deadline: April 18th, 2014.
  •  Symposium On Intonation & Tone in the Spanish-Speaking World (Conference date: October 10-11). It is the goal of this Symposium to bring together researchers working on diverse aspects of prosody not only in Spanish, but in other languages used by speech communities of the Spanish-speaking world. Keynote Speaker: José Ignacio Hualde (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), John Kingston (UMass-Amherst). Deadline: May 31st , 2014
