Vitor Vilaverde Awarded Global Arts and Humanities Discovery Theme Graduate Team Fellowship

Vitor Vilaverde Interviewing André

Congratulations to SPPO Graduate Student, Vitor Vilaverde, who has been awarded a Global Arts and Humanities Discovery Theme Graduate Team Fellowship for the coming academic year (2020-2021).  He will form part of a cohort of eight students from around the Division of Arts & Humanities who will meet on a monthly basis to discuss their individual projects, along with a faculty mentor.  The team fellowship promotes cross-disciplinary conversation to help each student to develop their project and to identify opportunities for external funding.

The fellowship will allow Vitor to complete the final edit of his documentary, Andor Stern, that “tells the story of André, 91 years old, the only living Brazilian who survived the Holocaust. The project discusses not only the livability of different communities, but also raises a message of social justice worldwide. Bringing André’s painful memories to the canvas is a project that believes that remembering and reflecting on the past is one way to positively modify both the present and future.”  Upon completion of the film, Vitor will turn his attention to promoting its distribution in community venues, film festivals, and academic institutions in Brazil and the US.
